VIRTUAL HERBALISM CONFERENCE - DAY 5

Exploring the Herbal Journey: Finding your Unique Educational Path with Jane Metzger & Cristina Asensio Foley

Join herbalists Lindsey, Jane, and Cristina for an inspiring conversation about their herbal journeys and how to create your own path in herbalism. Explore different herbalist types—folk, community, clinical, wildcrafter/grower, and entrepreneur—and discover which courses can help you on your journey. Learn about essential resources, including blogs and books, and hear about the value of apprenticeships and mentorships. Whether you’re just starting out or at a crossroads in your herbal journey, this session offers valuable guidance and inspiration for every stage of your herbal path.

Discussion Highlights:

  • Visualizing hopes and dreams for your own herbal path.
  • Overview of different types of herbalist paths: folk, community, clinical, wildcrafter/grower, and entrepreneur.
  • Finding the right courses at the Herbal Academy for you.
  • Essential resources for the herbal student.
  • The value of mentorships and apprenticeships on your herbal path.
  • Plants as teachers and ways to deepen connection with them.

Jane Metzger’s love for plants began on her family’s farm in northern Michigan, foraging wild spearmint and elderberries. At 18, she discovered herbalism while working at an herb shop. She balanced herbal studies with a career in geosciences, earning a B.S. and M.S. in the field. After moving to Massachusetts, she started an herbal products business. In 2014, Jane joined the Herbal Academy and now serves as Director of Education, overseeing course development and helping others nurture their well-being.
