VIRTUAL HERBALISM CONFERENCE - DAY 1

Lessons from a Curandera: Ancient Healing Traditions for Today with Adriana Ayales

Explore with Adriana Ayales, Costa Rican clinical herbalist and founder of Anima Mundi Apothecary, as she brings the plants of the rainforest and the Latin American tradition of Curanderismo to life. Adriana will share how traditional healing frameworks hold relevance not only in clinical application, but in how we care for our spirit, our community, and the world around us. Explore the deeper roles of plants as allies, traditions as teachers, and how we can respectfully engage ancient paths of medicine while living in a modern world.

Discussion Highlights:

  • What is Curanderismo and what plant allies are used in this tradition
  • Integration of prayer, ritual, and intuition in the practice of herbalism
  • How plants communicate their medicine to those who are listening
  • Key lessons from Curanderismo for navigating today’s fast-paced, disconnected world
  • Parallels between Curanderismo and other traditional healing systems worldwide
  • Cultural preservation and respect when sharing ancestral practices globally

Rainforest herbalist, medicine maker, educator, and Anima Mundi Apothecary founder Adriana Ayales moved to Brooklyn from her home in Costa Rica with a mission to bridge remedies from the native peoples of Central and South America with modern day needs and imbalances. From a young age, Adriana devoted her studies to shamanic style healing, hands-on energy work, and botanical inquiry.

As an adult, Adriana studied several healing traditions extensively alongside master herbalists and shamans for over 13 years. Her vision is to continuously create a farm-to-pharmacy experience that not only creates a sustainable system of healing, but contains within its core the pursuit to wholeness. She is devoted to sourcing from honest farmers, wildcrafters, and from Indigenous peoples when possible, to alchemize and create truly high vibrational medicines for the mind, body, and soul. Adriana believes that by preserving ancient forms of indigenous botany, we keep alive a very sacred aspect to our source.
