VIRTUAL HERBALISM CONFERENCE - DAY 1
Heart of the Harvest: Exploring Cultivation and Wildcrafting in Herbal Practice with Sarah Wu, Logan Keister, and Heather Wood Buzzard
In this panel discussion, we’ll explore one of herbalism’s most fundamental aspects—how we source our plants. From cultivated gardens to wild harvests, every choice shapes not just the herbal preparations we make but our relationship with the plants themselves. Sarah Wu, Logan Keister, and Heather Wood Buzzard share their knowledge and experiences from gardens, forests, and beyond, discussing the gifts, challenges, and responsibilities of cultivation and wildcrafting, and offering guidance on balancing sustainability, ethics, and accessibility in herbal sourcing.
Discussion Highlights:
- Benefits and challenges of harvesting through cultivation and wildcrafting
- Approaches to quality and consistency despite nature’s variability
- Ethical wildcrafting practices and ecological responsibility
- Preserving wild qualities within cultivated herbs
- Bioregional considerations guiding cultivation versus wild harvest
- Reciprocity with the land and plants in harvesting practices
- Evaluating herbs in commerce for ethical sourcing and fairness
