VIRTUAL HERBALISM CONFERENCE - DAY 5

Herbs and Pharmaceuticals: How to Navigate Herb–Drug Interactions with Dr. Marisa Marciano

This session we join Dr. Marisa Marciano, naturopathic doctor, clinical herbalist, and a leading voice in integrative herbal medicine. Creator of The Naturopathic Herbalist and co-author of Evidence-Informed Botanical Medicine, Dr. Marciano brings a deeply clinical, research-based perspective to herbal practice. We’ll explore the often misunderstood terrain of herb–drug interactions and how herbs and pharmaceuticals can safely support one another. Dr. Marciano helps us move beyond fear-based thinking toward a nuanced, practical understanding of how to navigate the terrain of herbs and pharmaceuticals.

Discussion Highlights:

  • Overview of herb–drug interactions
  • Distinguishing pharmacokinetics from pharmacodynamics in interaction assessment
  • High-risk drug classes and reasons for increased caution
  • Common interaction pathways and frequently implicated herbs
  • Influence of herb form, route of administration, and dosage on interactions
  • Considerations when working with psychotropic medications
  • Foundational skills for building confidence in assessing herb–drug interactions
